Dr. Denis-Emanuil Trancă (34), the Project Leader, is currently Lecturer at the Physics Department in University Politehnica of Bucharest. He is conducting his reasearch activities at CMMIP-UPB since 2012 during his last year of Masteral studies in Optoelectronics. In October 2015 he defended his PhD thesis, which covered new investigation approaches using scattering-type Scanning Near-Field Optical Microscopy. His research interests are related to scanning probe microscopy, high-resolution optical microscopy techniques (especially different variants of scattering scanning near-field optical microscopy), new detection and investigation applications for scattering scanning near-field optical microscopy and also image processing techniques. Recent interests include local refractive index changes of optical materials for 2D micro- optical devices and other related applications.
Dr. Ştefan G. Stanciu (39) is currently conducting his research activities as Scientific Researcher III at CMMIP-UPB. His main research interests revolve around high- and super-resolution imaging by scanning laser and scanning probe microscopies. Stefan’s doctoral work (2007-2011, UPB) had been focused on the development of novel digital image processing and computer vision techniques that enhance the visualization, representation and display of Confocal Scanning Laser Microscopy Data. Stefan has gained valuable R&D expertise by participating in more than 20 Research Projects funded by National or European Research Grants, starting with 2004. With respect to editorial appointments, Stefan is currently a Review Editor for Frontiers in Nanobiotechnology and to date reviewed manuscripts for multiple journals, including Journal of Biophotonics, Microscopy Research and Technique, Computer Methods and Programs in Biomedicine, Review of Scientific Instruments, IET Computer Vision, IET Image Processing, Frontiers in Molecular Biosciences, Frontiers in Cellular Neuroscience, or PlosOne. Dr. Radu Hristu (39), is a Lecturer at the Physics Department in University Politehnica of Bucharest. He is conducting his research activities at CMMIP-UPB since 2007, the year when he graduated from the Faculty of Electronics, Telecomunications and Information Technology, in the field of Microelectronics, Optoelectronics and Nanotechnologies. In 2012 he defended his PhD thesis which was devoted to investigations on semiconductor materials and devices by using high resolution optical microscopy techniques. His areas of expertise are laser scanning microscopy (instrumentation and applications), scanning probe microscopy (instrumentation and applications) and optoelectronics.
Dr. George A. Stanciu (72), is Professor of Physics at University Politehnica of Bucharest. Starting with 1973 he has been working in the Laser Scanning Microscopy field. In 1977 his team reported the first Digital Laser Scanning Microscope: (System for investigation of the semiconductor devices and the integrated devices by using laser scanning microscopy, G.A.Stanciu and C.M.Stoichita, Bul. Instit. Polit. XXXIX, 4, pp11-14, 1977). The system was the subject of Romanian patent no. 995574 (System for studying semiconductor materials and semiconductor devices -1978). He is head of Center for Microscopy-Microanalysis and Information Processing founded by him in 2001. He got his Doctor degree (Ph. D.) in Technical Physics in 1981. He received the Professor title in 1994. Currently he acts as professor of Quantum Mechanics in Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunications and Information Technology. Starting with 1973 he has been working in the Laser Scanning Microscopy field. In 1977 his team reported the first Digital Laser Scanning Microscope in the world. His research has been mainly in the field of laser scanning microscopy techniques and their applications in the fields of Life Sciences and Materials Science. Dr. George Stanciu was Visiting Professor at more than 20 Universities from Europe, USA, Asia and Australia. His research activities have been supported by over 50 national and international research grants. Dr. George Stanciu published more than 120 ISI papers and presented more than 40 invited lectures at international conferences. Currently is focused on researches related to near field instrumentation and application. Prof. George Stanciu is Senior member of the IEEE from 1995.
